The Peace of Love – Capturing the Admiration

30 Jan

I was asked to commission a family portrait for Tatiana, who wanted something that represents her loving family. Tatiana has been a long time friend and I’ve always admired her bravery (moving miles away to another country), her intellect (she’s a true inspiration) and her nurturing nature with her kids – especially the way she pours knowledge and scholastic into them. She’s a dope writer and we share that trait along with a love of books. Here’s more on Tatiana’s story, why she chose to capture her family in illustration and tips she has on mothering and navigating the journey of life.

Why did you want to get a commissioned piece of art and why did you choose the image/people to be drawn?

I live in Germany, and while it’s a lovely place to raise a family, when it comes to media representation of people who aren’t white, it lags FAR behind. I want my home to feel safe, like an oasis. One way I try to do that is through art. Having a portrait of my family means they will literally see themselves reflected in the media they consume.

What will this art piece mean for you/your family? How do you plan to use it?

I’ll display it in my home. And maybe I’ll order some Christmas cards!

What are three adjectives to describe you?

Artistic, lighthearted, adventurous

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in life? And also as a mother?

In both life and motherhood, I’ve learned to be proactive about the things I can control and to not my stress level be determined by things I can’t control.

If you had to give anyone advice about maneuvering through life, what would that advice be? Any advice for new/aspiring mothers?

My advice would be to have a plan, but be open to the surprises life gifts us. As for mothers: there is no one correct path to motherhood, and no one correct way to be a mother. Listen to other people’s advice, but trust in your ability to make good decisions.

What would you tell your 15-year-old self?

It’s ok to not fit in. You have plenty of time to find your right people.

What goals to you have planned this year?

My major goal is to finish the first draft of my novel and start submitting it to agents.

Shoutout your social media, business goals, and any useful links that below. How can people connect with you?

Art Personified: Celebrating 37 with Rhonisha

20 Jan

You know, life is a beautiful thing!

There are ups & downs, especially in relationships.

But every relationship means something. Even the ones that seem they were there to destroy us. For every one of those relationship that knock you down, I truly do believe many more spring up for something greater. Something positive.

That sometimes you meet people who change your life and inspire you in major ways!

Rhonisha is one of those people – a connector, a genuine spirit with overall good vibes.

I first met Rhonisha at a sorority meeting as she stood behind her camera to take photos of member of our chapter. She made sure I was posed in the best light and encouraged that I was sitting pretty.

Years later she’s been the woman behind my 30th birthday shoot, headshots, family holiday photos for two years straight, capturing the essence and growth of my family.

We’ve since worked on creative projects together and have had some powerful brainstorming sessions and sister moments.

When I launched my art business, she was one of my first requests to have a custom art portrait created from a photo that she cherished.

I enjoyed creating her image for her birthday celebration. Something that she could use to commemorate where she is in her life with friends and family. Rhonisha used her digital image in invites to friends to attend her party.

I’m thankful that our friendship has blossomed in such a way as this and wish her the Happiest of Birthdays. Learn more about Rhonisha:

1. Why did you want to get a commissioned piece of art and why did you choose the image/people to be drawn?

I LOVE Tracey’s work! I chose that image because it was taken as a way to honor myself for completing 30 days of Bikram Yoga. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made to enhance my life physically and mentally.

2. What will this art piece mean for you/your family? How do you plan to use it?

I’m using it as the keepsake to document my 37th birthday.

3. What are three words that describe you?

Loyal

Determined

Magical

4. What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in life?

To always be exactly who I am meant to be and do it unapologetically

5. If you had to give anyone advice about maneuvering through life, what would that advice be?

Meditate consistently, travel and see the world, honor your body, self love is the foundation to loving others, know yourself.

6. What would you tell your 15-year-old self?

All of the above!

7. What goals to you have planned this year?

Manifest the heck out of 2018!!
